LISTENING FOR HIS CALL
Habakkuk 2:1 I will stand upon my watch, and set me upon the tower, and will watch to see what he will say unto me, and what I shall answer when I am reproved.
Psalm 26:1-2, 12 Judge me, O Lord ; for I have walked in mine integrity: I have trusted also in the Lord ; therefore I shall not slide.
[2] Examine me, O Lord , and prove me; try my reins and my heart.
[12] My foot standeth in an even place: in the congregations will I bless the Lord.
Serving the Lord, being a mom or dad, and having all the responsibilities that comes with life…we can all agree, sometimes we can get overwhelmed. We try and excel and be the best employee, be the best parent, and life and our schedule gets so busy…we can be distracted. In our hearts, we also want to be the best Christian the Lord would have us to be, but life gets OUT OF BALANCE. David tells us in our text,
“My foot standeth in an even place:” In other words, the Lord is giving us instruction to have a balance in our daily lives, as well as our walk with Jesus. In our fast paced world, if we don’t have balance with our service for the Lord, our schedule, our family time…friend, we will MISS opportunities to help others, to be a witness or even HEAR the Holy Spirit leading us.
The prophet Habakkuk lived in anticipation of what God would say to him. He would keep watch and wait for the Lord and listen for HIM to speak to his heart. He would not only keep watch but, he would stand on his guard post and station himself on the tower, always on guard duty for himself and others. This man of God would begin his day with the eyes of a sharp shooter and plant himself on the (wall) of his life with a purposeful heart not to miss God. Habakkuk desired above all things not to miss God in anything. He believed that there was no greater honor than to submit to the Lord where HE was working and be a vessel of servitude at the Lord’s bidding. We are to be responders to God without hesitation, but in order to do that, we must be watchers first. We must take our stand every day with eyes wide open; with intentional living to be at God’s disposal, ready in season and out of season.
Whether your daily schedule has you as a keeper of your home and children, or sends you out into the world to work a job, we must prepare ourselves ahead of time and be ready and on watch. We live in a world that is on the “fast track” at all times and if we do not guard ourselves we will miss opportunities afforded us by the Lord. What post are you stationing yourself upon every day? Are you living intentionally with eyes open watching for God’s movement and a heart ready to follow the master’s call? My Christian friend, the Lord will summon you with HIS still small voice, if you will make yourself available, on the alert and ready for duty. Would you answer, “here am I, Lord, send me”? The Lord is looking for that Christian whose heart is completely available to HIM at all times, the one who is taking a stand on the wall of life and who is on watch listening for HIS call to action.
