Demas
2 Timothy 4:9-11 [9] Do thy diligence to come shortly unto me: [10] For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia. [11] Only Luke is with me. Take Mark, and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry.
As Bible believers it’s easy to look at the world around us and see how close we are to Christ’s return. Knowing this we must understand that we are going to reach a point that we will have to make a stand for God. We don’t know what each of our unique stands may entail. One may have to be willing to make a stand to just preach the one true Word, whole others may even face the possibility of having their life on the line. It’s easy to pop off and say I’m gonna stand for Jesus when we’ve not had to face the adversity that done faced for us to have the freedoms we do today. However, we are given examples in Scripture of people who you’d think wouldn’t walk away from God. Look at Demas that Paul mentions here. Two other verses we see Demas being a fellowlabourer with Paul. Colossians 4:14 Luke, the beloved physician, and Demas, greet you.
Philemon 1:24 Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, Lucas, my fellowlabourers.
Think of all the preaching he’d heard, and how he seen God use Paul in a mighty way. Yet, here in our text Paul says he, “ loved this present world.” Are we guilty of the same thing? Do we allow ourselves to be consumed by this world to the point that we love it more than the things of God? Are there things that we just love too much that we wouldn’t be willing to stand for God. Before we just easily say no way, ponder these questions: How quick are we to turn down God now? How quick will we pass up church for something else? How easily do we replace time to study with something else in this world? How easy can we get distracted away from our prayer time?
God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
