Nov. 14 Devotion: Waiting on God

Waiting on God

Psalm 46:10

Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

This might be an odd spot to start this week, but it’s what the Lord used to birth this thought into my thinking this week. One of the things I enjoy doing is hunting. Last weekend was the opening of gun season this year. This year I’ve taken a different approach than normal, which has me letting a lot of deer walk away. It has required a lot more patience than what I’m used to when it comes to hunting. As I sat still and just watched deer the other day, it brought our text verse today to mind.

I want to focus on the beginning of the verse, which is what you see quoted more often. The command to “be still” invites a pause, urging us to quiet our minds and hearts amid chaos, fear, or uncertainty. This stillness is not meant to be a time of inactivity, but a deliberate surrender to God’s sovereignty, helping to develop our trust in His divine authority and presence in our lives. This helps us to stand firm on His truth that He is God!  “I am God” affirms His unmatched power and control over everything, which in turn should provide us with  comfort and assurance in knowing that in every situation, we can rest on the fact that He is in control, and it can bring us great peace when we just trust in His timing and the simple truth that He has everything under control.

It can be difficult at times, but the best thing we can do when faced with difficult decisions or challenging times is to just be still and remember that He is God, and the Lord has it all under control.

God bless,

Bro. Josh Richardson
