How Familiar Is It?

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

I received a text message a couple weeks ago from someone asking for advice on how to play a certain golf course. I could immediately go through each hole in my head and give them any pointers that I thought was relevant. What if I was to ask you where something was in your favorite store. You could probably tell me shelf and aisle number. I could run through whatever hobby you may enjoy and in each case you could tell me all I need to know about it. What about God’s Word? How familiar are we with the Bible? If someone asked about what the Bible says about baptism, could you take them to it? What about something a little “simpler”. How fast could you find Habakkuk? Philemon? Obadiah? If someone asked you today if you could show them in the Bible how to be saved, could you? All the things I talked about earlier are things that we know a lot about because they are things that we spend a lot of time on. If we don’t know what we need to know about God’s Word, it’s not because it’s hard to understand, or we lack the wisdom. It’s truly an indictment on the amount of time we don’t spend truly studying. All time we spend in Gods Word is beneficial, but we will grow more the more we study. Do you spend all your time just reading, or do you get enveloped into His Word by studying and constantly becoming more familiar with it?

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
