Nov 19 Devotion: What Are You Cutting Out?

What Are You Cutting Out?

Jeremiah 36:22-24

[22] Now the king sat in the winterhouse in the ninth month: and there was a fire on the hearth burning before him. [23] And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, he cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth. [24] Yet they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants that heard all these words.

If you go back and read earlier in this chapter you will find Jeremiah was instructed to write the words the Lord had spoken to him on a scroll. Jeremiah then instructs Baruch to write these words down and take the scroll and read it because Jeremiah could not. We see now in our text verses the king cuts it and casts it into the fire. If you keep reading you find that Jeremiah instructed the Words to be written again. No one can destroy God’s Word! God’s Word comes from Him, and not man, so it will always survive any attempt to do away with it.

What I’d like to look at today out of our text is that simple word “cut”. The king didn’t like it so he cut it and threw it into the fire. What do we cut out? Are there things in The Bible that we may not study, or make sure we don’t read, just because we don’t like it. It doesn’t have to be something that deals with sin. It could be things that we just don’t like. You ever say, or hear someone else say: “Well, I just don’t think that’s the way it should be.” It doesn’t matter what we think, it’s what the Bible says! Maybe you don’t like to read about how God used others, because you’d prefer to just do your own thing instead of being used by God. Do you stay away from those “tough” things to understand in The Bible. Those things that require you to do a little more studying?

The ENTIRE BIBLE was given to us because we need it!!

2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Do you treat it as such? Do you just pick and choose those things easy to understand, those easy things to read, or those things that talk about God’s love and not point out your sin? What are you cutting out of His Word?

God bless you today!
