Nov. 28 Devotion: Not About Fast Laps

Not About Fast Laps

Hebrews 12:1

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

In 1994, in a lower division of NASCAR, a driver took a yellow flag and the white flag at the same time. The yellow flag meant something was on the track, and everyone had to slow down. The white flag meant there was only 1 lap remaining. All he had to do was make it around 1 more time under caution, and he would win the race. He inexplicably pulled off the track, thinking the race was over, and someone else went on to win the race.

We too are in a race. Our race isn’t over until the Lord returns or calls us home. I’m afraid some of us, though, run a fast lap every now and then and think we’ve really accomplished something. It seems like there’s an attitude that has taken over where people think they can’t change anything, so I’m not going to try. We see the direction the world is headed, and we know how close we are to the Lord’s return, so it seems like some are just sitting back and waiting on that to happen. The Lord’s return is close! Now is not the time to pull off the track and allow someone else to win. If we don’t finish our race, we give an opportunity to the devil to move into someone’s life.

Our race isn’t over yet, so don’t stop now!

God bless,

Bro. Josh Richardson
