Nov 6 Devotion: Filled with Fulness

Ephesians 3:19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

Sometimes, we fall far short of all we should be in our relationship with Christ. The world bombards us daily with all kinds of wickedness and temptations. It is a hard world to live in, and it is getting harder every day. The devil is turning up the heat on his fiery darts. (Ephesians 6:16) We are witnessing the demise of the country we once knew. It is not the same. It is under attack. (It has been under attack for a long time, but the results of the attack are now being manifested more openly.) So, what should we do? Should we throw up our hands in disgust and frustration and say, it just isn’t worth fighting anymore? Of course not. What we should do (to use a popular phrase) is to “double-down” on our walk with the Lord.

The above verse in Ephesians tells us that our need is to “filled with all the fulness of God”. To be filled means not having any room for anything else. All these things that bombard us from the world cannot find a breach to enter if we are full. God so permeates our lives with his fulness that we are impenetrable. Now I know that we do not live this way all the time, but we should. We should have a sign on display that says, no vacancy. I do not want the filth of sin to enter in. I want the Lord above all else.

Matthew 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

When we get to the place that we want God above all else, we will be filled. When we long for him as the dear seeks the water of the brook, (Psalm 42:1) then we shall have our thirst quenched. When our eyes are focused on him, we shall see his goodness and grace, realizing that he is all we need. When we seek him with our whole heart, (Matthew 22:37) then our lives will be filled with “joy unspeakable and full of glory”. (1 Peter 1:8) Are you “filled”? If not, then you have your focus on the wrong things.

Consider the words of the songwriter who said, “Turn your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in his wonderful face. And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of his glory and grace.” Be ye “filled with all the fulness of God”.
