Training
Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
If you woke up today and decided you wanted to hire a personal trainer I don’t believe you’d call me. You’d want a person who that was their expertise. If you are having a plumbing issue you aren’t going to call an electrician. You will call the person with the proper training to do whatever job it is you need done. We tend to hear this verse typically referred to in trying to explain that a prodigal will come home. We want to say that if we do what’s right then that child will eventually come around if they’ve strayed. How good of a trainer are you then? Our children will mimick the things we do far more than the things we say to do. We’ve all heard the saying: Do as I say not as I do. That’s not exactly a good trainer. Our kids are around us more outside of church than they are in church. So it’s our everyday lives that they are going to pay more attention to. If we are going to train them up properly then we need to be doing the things the Bible instructs us to outside of church. Do they ever see us study? What’s our prayer life like? How often do they hear backbiting or gossip come out of our mouths? Words without actions isn’t trying them up in the way they should go. There is also a lot more people than just kids watching our lives, so what kind of trainer are you?
God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
