Oct. 17 Devotion: Spiritual Unity

Spiritual Unity

Ephesians 4:13

Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

Here we find a powerful call to spiritual maturity and unity within the body of Christ. This verse expresses that all believers would grow together in faith, unified by a shared understanding of who Jesus is. This unity isn’t superficial agreement, but a deep, Spirit-led oneness that comes from truly knowing Christ.

This unity comes from everyone having a Spirit led desire to follow Christ. We’ve heard pastor ask the question: “What could God do with one church completely sold out to Him?” It takes unity to be that one church. It takes us all serving the Lord in whatever capacity God would have us to serve. It also starts with the basics. Prayer, study, faithfulness in attendance and the things of God. If you watch a basketball game and you see one person who just wants to do things their own way of affects the whole team. They are lacking the unity needed to accomplish their goals. If we think we have different spiritual standards to adhere to than anyone else how are we going to have unity for Christ?

This verse reminds believers that the Christian journey is not only personal but deeply communal. We are to grow together, building each other up, with Christ as both the goal and the standard. It challenges us to pursue spiritual growth with humility, unity, and perseverance, always aiming to reflect more of Jesus in every aspect of our lives.

We aren’t on this walk alone. We should encourage one another, seek Christ’s guidance, realize we aren’t alone in this walk. We must also examine ourselves to see if there is anything in us that might break that unity. That examination is not done in comparison to others, but to where Christ desires us to be.

God bless,

Bro. Josh Richardson
