Oct. 27 Devotion: Your Next Step Could Sink You

Your Next Step Could Sink You

Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Think for a moment on how hard it is to get up in the middle of the night and walk across your room when it’s completely dark. Even a place you are familiar with can be tough to navigate. That’s why some may have a nightlight or even flip a light on. We live in a dark world with snares at every turn. The best way to combat that is to be entrenched in God’s Word and allow it to lead us. We have no idea what is awaiting us around the next corner to try to trip us up. Too often we think people fall into sin or get into trouble when they are looking for it so to speak. However, that’s not always the case. There are times when we could be where we need to be but taking our eyes of Jesus for just a moment can cause us to sink quickly. Think of Peter: Matthew 14:27-30 But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. [28] And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. [29] And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. [30] But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. Peter was walking on water and on his very next step he began to sink. All it took was taking his eyes off Jesus for a split second. That’s all it can take for us. There’s a dark world looking to see us fail, looking to trip us up, looking to see us ruin our testimony. Allow the light of His Word to lead your every step and every path you take. Otherwise your next step could sink you!

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
