And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth.
68 But he denied, saying, I know not, neither understand I what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew. -Mark 14:67-68 In Mark 14 we find the arrest and trial of our Lord. Prior to His arrest, Jesus foretells his disciples that one of them would betray Him. In his usual boastful manner, Peter boldly proclaims that he would never do such a thing and would even die with the Lord before he would betray Him. Jesus tells Peter that before the cock crows twice he would deny Him three times. As you know, Peter does in fact deny Jesus three times. In verse 68, Peter steps out of Pilate’s hall onto the porch where he hears the cock crowing. As he realizes his failure, the guilt rushes in and for the next few days he lives with the shame of how he stooped to such lows in our Lord’s greatest hour of need. His reflection is not in vain as he learns some invaluable lessons from his mistakes.
*Some Lessons Learned on the Porch!
*there’s a lesson on…
Sleeping! Mark14:37
Slipping! Mark14:54
Slumping! Mark14:66
Sinning! Mark14:67-71
Sorrowing! Mark14:72
Note: the porch was outside the Sanctuary, it takes but one step to lead to much sorrow! May God help us to learn from Peter’s errors so as not to make the same mistakes!
