Love, Not Support
1 John 4:11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
If you have kids you know there are times that you would punish your child for something they had done. If you’re reading this and don’t have kids, thank back to a time when you was a child and your parents would have to get on you for something you had done wrong. It didn’t mean they didn’t love you, just like it doesn’t mean we don’t love our kids but there are still expectations we have of them doing the right thing. Think of our text verse. We are to love one another. That verse does not tell us we are to support or condone sin. In 1 John it tells us we are to keep his commandments:
1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
We live in a society where it’s not that they just don’t have same morals or believe the way we do, but they think we are just downright wrong for not supporting or condoning their sin. We are homophobic in their eyes if we don’t support their homosexuality. They think we are against them if we tell them abortion is wrong. If you don’t think you should drink or party well then you are just an old fuddy duddy who don’t ever want to have fun. We can’t allow their thoughts creep in and allow us to begin to make excuse for the wickedness that goes on. Why do we have so many school activities at church time? Why was prayer taken out of school? Christians weren’t willing to take a stand. I can remember being able to watch tv without a homosexual on it. You’d be hard pressed now to find any new show that doesn’t only have one, but push it openly. We are instructed still to love these people. We don’t have to act like we are best friends. However, we should love them enough to share the Gospel with them. We shouldn’t just shout at how wrong they are, but be able to show them Scripture that points out their wickedness. Being rude, crude, and basically living like the world is not going to help us to point anyone to Christ. See, their is no big and little sin. No bad sinners or good sinners. So when we know the truth and know to do right and don’t do it. It’s no different than those living in the world. Sin is sin. However, we know Gods mercy and grace. Therefore, we should extend it to others. Share the Gospel so that they too can know God the way we do! Do you show more love or judgement?
God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
