Sept 11 Devotion: A Day of Remembrance

“Where were you when the world stopped turning, on that September day?” That is a line from Alan Jackson song that came out after 9/11. That is a day that we all remember where we were, what we were doing, and what we thought when we seen or heard the horrific events that had just taken place. One of things I remember is just how full churches were over a few weeks after. What happened? Out of sight, out of mind? The farther we get from that day the less we remember or fear that it can happen again. We feel safe. Think we have everything figured out and that it couldn’t happen again. It’s the same thing with God. The farther we drift away, the less we see our need for Him in our everyday life. We think we have all answers.

Proverbs 16:18 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

We start drifting when we relax:

•Don’t pray as often

•Don’t see a problem with missing a service every now and then

•Don’t spend time in His Word daily

•Don’t mind dabbling in sin

If we as born again believers would have the fear of God in our hearts the way we did fear of terrorism on that day we could see a return to churches being filled. We could see: •people get in(saved)

•prodigals return

2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

As we remember all those that lost their lives on this day may we also renew that fear of God in our hearts that people may see the true love of Christ in our lives for them.
