BEING A SERVANT
Hebrews 6:10-11 For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.
[11] And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end:
Revelation 22:12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.
To serve is to love and to love is to serve. This is how Jesus loved the Father by serving HIS people. Laying aside HIS royal garments, rights, and HIS glory. God’s only Son girded HIMSELF about, took up the towel and basin and kneeling there before twelve ordinary men, one of whom would betray HIM, Jesus began washing their feet. Jesus was able to wash the feet of HIS enemy because those feet became the feet of God in HIS hands. Being a servant is no ordinary act as viewed in the eyes of God, it is God centered, God focused and God honoring always. It’s a pouring out of love unto the God Who has loved you so much that HE HIMSELF became your servant, putting on the robe of flesh and walking the road to Calvary.
It’s easy for Christians to see themselves as children of God because of all the benefits that come from salvation. Forgiveness, Grace, and just being in HIS presence every day; these are just some of the wonderful things the Lord gave us, when Jesus saved us from our sins. But how many of us see ourselves as servants? Every child of God is called to be a servant of God. Too often we want all the benefits without the servant hood because that would involve surrendering all our rights. You cannot acknowledge your own rights as a servant of God because they are non-existent. When this takes place, we are then, and only then, able to pick up the towel and basin in order to serve others. A servant is not greater than his master. If Jesus was a servant, then how much more should we be?
Being a servant is not in a position, time, money or even the sacrifices we make in serving the Lord. Serving is loving the Lord with ALL of our being in the place or places, position, and means HE has made available to us. The Lord tells us to show diligence in our service until the very end. In other words, finish strong! My Christian friend, don’t let up or be weary, payday and our reward is coming! Our Lord is keeping a record and will not forget your love and service for HIM. If you look on the horizon through spiritual eyes you can catch a glimpse of what we have to look forward to. Jesus is coming, whether by death or the rapture, Jesus will come for you and HE is bringing HIS reward with HIM! Keep your eyes upon Jesus, be grounded and settled in the truth, and steady your hands to the plow for the work HE has for you to do. It’s my prayer for you, that you will be determined to be a humble, faithful servant all the way to the end.
