Overcoming Your Walls

Joshua 6:1-5 [1] Now Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in. [2] And the Lord said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour. [3] And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days. [4] And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams’ horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets. [5] And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him.

Even though I only have the first 5 verses of Joshua chapter 6 listed here, I would encourage you to go ahead and read the rest of the chapter. It is a very familiar story, but one that can always be good in reminding us that we can overcome even our greatest of obstacles. There are some things though that we are going to have to do though in order to overcome. First I believe is that you have to realize the opportunity. We are not to live in fear. If you are faced with something that you don’t think you can overcome with God then you never will. Second, we have to obey. Israel did exactly what they were instructed to do. Had they veered at all they would not have experienced the great victory. Thirdly, we need to be orderly. God has very specific instructions on what they were to do. You may have a problem with anxiety, bitterness, or something else. There are times those things are not easy to just “get over”. God may show us small steps in helping us to get over those things. Some that battle addictions may have to take small steps. Not all of them can just quit something cold turkey. We won’t be successful trying to do things on our own time table. Lastly, we just need to overcome. When we battle something for an extended period of time anxiety can sit in when the victory is right in front of us. We allow ourselves to think, “Can we really do this and overcome whatever this problem is that we’ve been facing for so long?” God gave them the victory, but when you get down to verse 20 it would have done them no good to see the walls fall down and then turn and walk away for fear of what was behind the walls. Many times we have all we need right in front of us to experience victory. Whatever you may be facing today you can overcome relying on God!!

Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
