Sept 9 Devotion: Is Jesus Welcomed Or Entertained

Is Jesus Welcomed Or Entertained

Mark 5:17 And they began to pray him to depart out of their coasts.

This should be a familiar verse to us. This verse comes after Jesus had delivered a man from an unclean spirit.

Mark 5:8 For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.

It then tells us that all the people came and found this man, clothed, and in his right mind. They then wanted Jesus gone. Jesus was there a short time, and then they wanted Him gone.

What about Jesus in your life? Is He welcomed at any and all times, or just entertained when needed? How often do we see people show up at church when problems show up in their lives? Have you ever seen someone spend more time in prayer or study when things have gone wrong? We are quick to welcome Jesus in when we perceive Him as “needed.” However, when things are going good we don’t seem to have that same sense of fellowship with The Lord. He’s not quite as welcomed at those points in our lives. It’s not that we are praying for Him to depart, but we just don’t spend the same amount of time with Him when we aren’t facing the storms of this life. Our current state of affairs should have zero affect on our fellowship with Christ. All that He does for us we should desire to stay close to Him.

Is Jesus a welcomed part of your everyday life, or is He one you entertain on an as needed basis?

God bless you today!
