BLESS HIS NAME
Psalm 100:1-5 Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands.
[2] Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
[3] Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
[4] Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
[5] For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.
I want to bring your attention today to this wonderful chapter in your Bible. Praise the Lord, many years ago I was required to memorize this chapter in school and so many countless times in my life it has been a blessing to me. The words of this Psalm are very poetic, easy to read and they bring joy to me every time I read them. This chapter deals with many topics we could study today. In (verses 1 to 3) the Psalmist deals with serving God with gladness, being in HIS presence with a song, and putting HIM above everything else. In verse 5 we are reminded that the Lord is GOOD, that there is NO end to HIS mercy and HIS truth will stand the test of time for all eternity, Hallelujah! For a few minutes though, I want to focus our attention on verse 4. In (verse 4) the Word of God commands us to come into HIS house and to be thankful. Christian friend, if you are saved and forgiven and born again by the Spirit of God, you have so much to be thankful for! We ought to come to God’s house absolutely on fire and ready to bless HIS name and give HIM thanks for who HE is and all that HE has done!
The greatest weapon you can take in hand to and through the battlefield of discouragement is the weapon of gratitude. It will defeat the greatest foe and build a wall of strength and confidence in every trial and circumstance. Honoring the Lord with a thankful heart for HIS goodness defeats the enemy when he tries to discourage us with thoughts of doubt. If we praised God with a thankful heart every time the devil tried to discourage us, can you imagine how that would change our walk with God? Being thankful and giving God praise can be a powerful tool in the hand of the child of God.
The sweetest times with the Lord are not those times where we pour out our needs before HIM, but when we just sit and praise HIM, thanking HIM for how HE has blessed us, and changed our lives and brought us out of a pit of sin! Remembering HIM in all of HIS goodness will gives us strength and power when we are weary. The Christian who has forgotten the goodness of the Lord will be prey to the enemy’s attacks. When was the last time you celebrated down in the depths of your soul with a thankful heart with the Lord?
My friend, if there has been a lack of praise and gratitude in your life to our Lord, may I encourage you today to start counting your blessings and start blessing HIS name! Think back on how the Lord found you, saved you, and delivered you from sin and shame. Remember the Lord in your good times, and forget HIM not in the hard times. If today is one of your hard times, start your day with lifting HIM up and Blessing HIS name, HE IS WORTHY!
