Apr 24 Devotion: Doing your own Research

Proverbs 14:15 - “ The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.”

The simple in faith are those that are carried about with every wind of doctrine. They have not grown roots in their spirituality and are as the seeds of a dandelion that are carried far from where they once started.

The simple in life are bearded by whomever can sound most confident, most educated, or appears most reliable. Such is why so many wicked individuals can become elected to public office.

Simplicity is the exact opposite of what Christ intends for the saints of His church. We are to be firmly planted on the Rock of our salvation, always ready to answer anyone that asks us for the reason behind our eternal hope. We are edifies to be wise as serpents and harmless as doves. We are instructed to avoid the ways of the foolish and ignorant. We are commanded to try the spirits to see if they be of God. We can not walk worthy of our calling if we are simple Christians.

We ought to compare everything to what this saith the Lord. Let God be true and every man a liar. We are to believe those things which match up to biblical truth, we are to follow those that walk within the statutes of God, we are to denounce and reject all those that speak or walk contrary to the Word of God.

Paul wrote that even if the churches were to hear a different gospel (even of himself) other than Christ, to let that man who preached it be cursed. So why then do we allow ourselves to be herded along with the masses without questioning what we’ve heard by comparing it to the scriptures?

When we are led away due to our simplicity, we become willing partakes of sinfulness or iniquity. We ought to question, for without inquiring of God we cannot ever be certain that we are in His will.

We are to follow God as sheep, but the Shepard never wishes harm to the flock. Instead of just being gullible, naive and simple start becoming those that prove those things which we see and hear. Try them against the purity of God’s Word, put them to the test against Christ’s standards and see which is worth believing.

To believe everything, regardless of who says it, is to live an unsure and anxious life. The simple put faith in everything and at the same time have no hope because they are unsure of what to believe the most.
