Dec. 2 Devotion: The Old Man’s Not Dead

The Old Man’s Not Dead

Galatians 5:16-18

This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. [17] For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. [18] But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

Years ago there was a very popular gospel song that said that the old man was dead. That is not true, because that is contrary to the Bible. The Bible says that the flesh fights against the spirit. It’s a daily fight to keep the spirit in charge of your spiritual life. If the old man is dead there would be no fight. The Bible tells us to crucify the flesh. It is not a one time deal, it's a daily thing. The Bible says to present your body a living sacrifice which is your reasonable service, be not conformed to the world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. I know that we like to think that we are super spiritual and act like we don't have any struggles and we have conquered the flesh and everything is easy, but this is contrary to the Bible. I believe that every Christian has something that gives them problems. In Hebrews we are instructed to lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily beset us. So Christian friends don't think that your the only one that is struggling

God bless
