Feb 27 Devotion: An Obvious Outcome

Psalm 37:14-15

14 The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, and to slay such as be of upright conversation.

15 Their sword shall enter into their own heart, and their bows shall be broken.

God knows everything. He has the divine attribute of omniscience. He knows every detail of everything that has happened, is happening, and will happen. (What a mind boggling thought!) Because of this, he knows how things will turn out. He knows who wins and who loses. (This is called foreknowledge.) His precious inspired word (which comes forth from his omniscience) can discern the very reason why we do what we do.

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

So, let us draw a simple conclusion from what we are told in these verses in Psalm 37. The wicked do not win. They may plot and plan. They may conceive of many devises to gain for themselves by putting down others, but they will not win. It may look like they are the victors now but when the war is over, they do not win. God will turn their plans around against them. They will be defeated. Their arrogance will be turned into bowing before Jesus Christ in acknowledgement that he is Lord to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:11) All their vain words against God and his people will be stopped. Those that exalt themselves to a place of expectant worship will be brought down in humble abasement. There will be no bragging then. Their wicked choices will be their downfall.

A question was asked in Exodus 32:26. “Who is on the LORD’S side?” It is a question that we all must answer, but only one answer can result in a good outcome. The wicked (those that choose themselves over God) do not win. They are on the wrong side and God will turn their choice against them.

Let us consider one more thing before we conclude this devotion. God finds no pleasure in the defeat of the wicked. It is not his will that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9) He loves the whole world so much that he sent Jesus Christ to be the Savior. (John 3:16) Ponder this verse in Ezekiel 33:11 and if you are on the side that is against the Lord, please turn to God before it is too late.

Ezekiel 33:11 Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?
