Oct 29 Devotion: "I Will Trust"
Isaiah 12:2 Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.
When I was younger, I trusted in my intellect, my ability, my youthful strength. Sometimes, I made it through my problems. Most of the time, I could not. I usually made things worse. The zeal of youth was overcome by the reality of the superiority of life’s enemies. But I kept plodding along, trying to do the best I could.
As I write this, I am reminded of the verse where David said, “I have been young, and now am old”. (Psalm 37:25) I must admit that I can be stubborn in my thinking that I can handle life’s problems even though my personal track record is not good. That is the thinking of the flesh, and I still have that sin nature that I was born with and must still contend with. But I am also a new creature in Christ Jesus that knows better. There is a truth that keeps reminding me of what I should do and when I listen, I do so much better. “I will trust” must be my determinate conviction. I must not trust in my ability but in the God who sits supreme above everything. He is able to do, I am not. He is the God of my salvation. He is my strength and my song. He is my all in all. “I will trust”. I must look up to him and “I will trust”. I must set my pride aside and in him “I will trust”. He needs to always be my first choice and “I will trust”. I can’t figure life out, but “I will trust”.
This devotion has been written from my standpoint, for it is personal. (Isaiah declared it as personal to him.) I can’t choose a path for you. I can only choose for me. I can pass along truth, but I can only practice it for me. You must make your own choices. I can say from the voice of experience that the only right way is to practice “I will trust” in the Lord, but I can’t do it for you. So, Joshua said, “Choose you this day whom ye will serve”. (Joshua 24:15) Will your choice be, “I will trust”? My prayer is that you will. Pray that I will do the same.
Proverbs 3:5-7
5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
